Wirt was a pioneer famous for 19th-century eyedropper pens, their later 1920s lever-filling models were produced in much smaller quantities, making this a highly sought-after find for specialized vintage pen collectors. Product Details & Specifications. WirtMaterial: Black Chased Hard Rubber (Ebonite). Dimensions: Slim profile, measuring exactly 5 inches approx. Nib: Authentic Wirt 14K Gold Nib. Features a desirable semi-flexible feel with excellent springback. Notably features Wirt’s signature “unvented” design (no breather hole), relying on his proprietary feed system. Trim: Elegant, wide gold-filled cap band. This is a premium jeweler’s band featuring a classic vintage monogram letter engraving. Smooth, sleek “clipless” cap design as originally manufactured. Filling System: Lever Filler (utilizes Wirt’s patented narrow lever mechanism). The black hard rubber has retained its deep dark color remarkably well with minimal oxidation. The chased pattern is clear, and the gold-filled jeweler’s band retains a brilliant shine with light micro-scratching consistent with age. No apparent cracks, deep gouges, or personal engravings outside of the factory monogram area. Mechanics: The lever moves, but the internal rubber ink sac has dried out and hardened over the decades. It will require a standard re-sacking/restoration to be fully functional. Due to the unique nature of Wirt’s internal pressure bar assembly, professional restoration is recommended. Condition:USED Very Good. This is a very rare one, a model from around 2000, in collaboration with Paul Smith. It has a sterling silver barrel with 925 engraving on the shaft. With the cap closed, the total length is about 12.5cm. There is a small scratch on the cap. There are some light scratches and tarnish peculiar to silver, but it is possible to write smoothly without any defects. There is no box or converter. Thank you for your understanding.
Recently discovered in a several generation country farm in Southeastern Pennsylvania, this rare surviving 1885 Patent PAUL WIRT Bloomsburg Pa “SECRETARY” EYEDROPPER fountain pen with overfeed nib in Chased Black Hard Rubber has no chips or cracks – it measures 6″ capped and 7″ posted – there are a few digs or bite marks at the barrel end. This is a long and slender 19. Century Eyedropper pen, CBHR with contrasting, smooth slip-cap and step down barrel end – the small cap opening is just 5/16 giving the extra thin pen an elegant and eye-catching appearance. The wonderfully preserved and complete single line imprint reads “PAUL E WIRT PAT FEB-85″. Included is the eyedropper found next to the pen. I have not turned the section to expose the barrel because it is tight and likely fragile. I can’t see the nib, a VERY FLEXIBLE Fine with good iridium – from the back, although unpolished, it looks like gold and, judging from the overall state of the pen, the nib is likely WIRT as well.
