This pen features exceptional provenance and master craftsmanship: Custom Artisan Nib Grind by Pioneer Master Nibsmith Gustavo Rodriguez The Master Craftsman: Based out of New York, Gustavo Rodriguez was a true pioneer in the modern pen restoration and nib customization world, known throughout the community as the “Nib Mohel” for his meticulous nib repair work and reductions. Innovator & Patent Holder: Renowned for his advanced material engineering and structural repair innovations, Rodriguez held patents in specialized nib restoration techniques, including pioneering thermal shock processing methods for metal stress-relief, alignment, and tipping stabilization. The Grind & Line Variation: Ground by Rodriguez into a crisp, highly expressive Bold Italic (BI), this 1983 Centennial 18K unit pairs his master shaping with the softer, springier gold geometry of Waterman’s initial anniversary release. Included Provenance Package: Written History & Writing Sample Card: A handwritten provenance document recording the pen’s history, noting Catalog Ref: #172, and documenting the 1985 custom nib grind by Gustavo Rodriguez alongside an ink writing sample demonstrating the line variation. Archival Studio Photo: An archival photograph depicting master nibsmith Gustavo Rodriguez actively working at his bench. Body & Trim: Acrylic body displays fine surface micro-scratching; gold plating on clip, cap bands, and section ring remains bright. Nib Unit: Flushed, clean, and tuned for optimal flow and sharp line contrast. Feel free to ask question!
