Estimate Christmas Day, 12/25/14 engraving with H. Jewelers band and clip may be a later addition as the pen pat. Dates on cap and barrel pre-date the engraving by 10 years. NOTE: “F 27 6″ or “F 27 G” very lightly hand-engraved on the bottom of the edge of the cap band – see image. 14k Clip jewelers clip 2.8 g. 14k Boston Safety 2 size Medium Nib – smooth on paper. Recently discovered in a several generation country farm in Southeastern Pennsylvania, this rare surviving 1885 Patent PAUL WIRT Bloomsburg Pa “SECRETARY” EYEDROPPER fountain pen with overfeed nib in Chased Black Hard Rubber has no chips or cracks – it measures 6″ capped and 7″ posted – there are a few digs or bite marks at the barrel end. This is a long and slender 19. Century Eyedropper pen, CBHR with contrasting, smooth slip-cap and step down barrel end – the small cap opening is just 5/16 giving the extra thin pen an elegant and eye-catching appearance. The wonderfully preserved and complete single line imprint reads “PAUL E WIRT PAT FEB-85″. Included is the eyedropper found next to the pen. I have not turned the section to expose the barrel because it is tight and likely fragile. I can’t see the nib, a VERY FLEXIBLE Fine with good iridium – from the back, although unpolished, it looks like gold and, judging from the overall state of the pen, the nib is likely WIRT as well.
