Judging from the engraving on the nib, this product was manufactured at the Hiratsuka factory in November 1975. Considering that the barrel is about half a century old, there are no particular chips or scratches, and there are barely any scratches on the part where the cap fits into the barrel. It uses an 18K WG (white gold) nib and has an F (fine) nib. The writing has been confirmed by test writing. It’s not too soft for an 18K nib, and it feels quite firm when writing. After testing, it was disassembled, cleaned, dried and stored. This is Pilot’s popular engraved model. A piece in good condition is rare, so please consider purchasing one at this opportunity. Size: 133 mm (From the Cap). Platinum Pen Company was founded in 1919 in Tokyo, Japan. Initially, the company manufactured gold nibs for fountain pens. In 1924, Platinum introduced its first self-produced fountain pen called the Platinum Pen. This pen featured an iridium-tipped gold nib, which improved writing performance. In the 1920s, Platinum began producing fountain pens under the brand name Obunsha fountain pen. These pens featured semi-flex nibs, piston fillers, and lever filler mechanisms. Due to the war effort, from the 1950s, Platinum utilized technology used for producing jet planes to create the first metal cap variant of their pens, which became an instant hit. During the 1950s, Platinum also started producing early models of the Platinum Honest Pen series. They later launched the famous Honest 66 model, featuring a metal cap and a narrow design celluloid body. This particular model was created during that era. What’s even more intriguing is that it still retains the distinctive no-engraving Platinum Nib, which can be seen in the 1960s Platinum Honest model. Therefore, the Platinum Super Fountain Pen was an unreleased model that utilized nibs from the 1940s and incorporated the early design of the Honest nib. Remarkably, it remains in incredible condition because we were fortunate enough to obtain this undisclosed stock of Platinum from a Platinum Collector who possessed these unreleased pens in Brand New Old Stock condition. About the design of this pen: Gold Stripe Metal Design. This pen has a design that is commonly found during the 1960s in Japan. During that time, Japan is experiencing fast economic growth post-war and many people come middle income to high-income individuals within a short period of time. And also after the war, Many Fountain Pen companies begin producing metal cap fountain pens due to the technology they learned while making weapons for the war. And coincidentally, Metal made fountain pen was deemed as a luxury item, matched with the rising income of the average household, then we have a situation where the demand for more luxurious fountain pen increased rapidly and the market’s answer was in Metal Designed Fountain pen such as Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel Body fountain pen to something like this special Gold Stripe Shaped Platinum Super fountain Pen. About the nib: 18K SEMI FLEX PLATINUM NIBS. Platinum initially began as a company that produced 18K gold nibs for other fountain pen brands in the 1919s. In the 1920s, Platinum shifted its focus to developing its own fountain pen brand. They started manufacturing fountain pens with Semi-Flex nib variants under the brand name Obunsha, and this continued even after the war ended. The Platinum Semi-Flex nibs have always been known for their reliability and high quality. This particular pen features a very rare nib because it does not bear the usual Platinum engraving on the top, which became more common from the 1960s onwards. Instead, this pen utilizes a nib from the 1940s era. Semi-Flex nibs gained popularity from the 1940s to the 1970s, as they allowed people to achieve line variations required for writing kanji characters. Users also enjoyed the ability to apply pressure while writing, creating different stroke thicknesses. Overall, the Platinum Super Fountain Pen stands out with its unique nib, showcasing the craftsmanship and versatility of Platinum pens during the mid-20th century. Surprisingly, this brand new old stock Platinum Super Fountain Pen writes incredibly well. Since it has never been inked before our testing, the performance remains pristine. The nib flexes smoothly, providing a fine stroke rather than an extra fine one. When writing sideways, it doesn’t scratch the paper but glides smoothly, offering a pleasant writing experience with minimal feedback. The semi-flex nature of the nib makes it perfect for writers who frequently work with Kanji or Chinese characters, as it allows for both broad and small strokes to be effortlessly achieved. FILLING SYSTEM: PLATINUM CARTRIDGE. However, it’s important to note that the Platinum converter currently available was not manufactured in 1956. As a result, this pen can only utilize a Platinum cartridge. While it may physically fit a Platinum converter, the pen’s body will not close properly because the converter is too large for this particular model. Therefore, it is recommended to use a Platinum cartridge for optimal functionality. This pen has the early Platinum Catridge and Converter filling housing that still can be used with modern Platinum Catridge and Converter. However, we were fortunate enough to find an ultra-rare sac bulb platinum converter. This converter is like Pilot CON-20 but in Platinum edition. And You cant find this converter anywhere in the online market. It only existed in the collectors market. And it was apart of Nishio Vintage Fountain Pen collection. This pen is BRAND NEW OLD STOCK! (See Grade Below) Has been in the depository for more than 80 years but has been kept nicely until now! The pen has almost no scratches and only minor scratches on the clip and that is because it has been in the depository. The pen was not inked and we only dipped the nib in ink to test the nib’s performance. The nib has been tested to assess any scratchiness or ink leakage and we have found that the nib performs exceptionally well, with limited scratchiness (even though the pen’s nib size is fine nib), and no leakage was found on the pen. Antique novelty Chinese man c1900 Silver Dip Pen Beautiful. New to the market. Antique rare late Victorian c1900 solid Silver dip pen Cylindrical shaped body. It is in good antique condition, as pictured it has original nibs with it and is ready to go. As is often the case with these small items of silver of this design & from this period it is not hallmarked but It has been tested to confirm it has a high Silver content. Lovely collectors item, a must for any serious collection. Length huge 17.5 cm. X 10mm (0.5) wide. Condition: This delightful large dip pen is in good condition with, no restoration. But a few small knocks along the barrel and nib holder consistent with being over 120 years old. These knocks can be polished out but I prefer to leave items showing use and character. Beautiful very rare antique. I have left the silver unpolished as I feel it adds to its original character, if you wish I could polish it up to a gleaming Finnish, I will leave it for you to decide. Here I have a Vintage Waterman’s 3V Black, Silver and Red Celluloid body and a VERY RARE 14k J #2 Flex nib. This is a Waterman 3V Fountain Pen in black Celluloid, collector’s grade.
