Montblanc 146 G Celluloid Fountain Pen 1949 to 1952. 14C O FULL Flex Nib. Rare
Montblanc 146 G Celluloid Fountain Pen 1949 to 1952. 14C O FULL Flex Nib. Zero Cracks or Repairs etc. Telescopic Piston has just been serviced and works as when New. Rare to find so clean. Made in Germany 1949 to 1952 in this exact form. This handsome chap is where it all began for the famous 146 fountain pen. The design and looks of this pen are what most people consider to be a Montblanc today. Streamline cigar shape with 3 cap rings. Central Montblanc ring etc. At least one that looks similar. The truth of the matter is though these originals are by far superior in almost EVERY aspect compared with a modern Montblanc 146, 149, 145 etc etc fountain pen. These vintage originals have superior metal Telescopic Pistons and Flexible Nibs. Made of Jet Black high Gloss Celluloid. This is an early model: 146 G 1= 1st line Meisterstuck, 4 = Piston filler, 6 = Nib size, G = Glatt = Smooth or Gloss finish. After 1954 the G was dropped. The 14C Nib has the early shaded (M) logo centre nib (dates 1946 to 1952) then the (M) was no longer shaded (1952 to present day). The Ski Slope Lined Flat feed (dates 1947 to 1954) then the feed was made FAT line non ski slope (1954 to 1958). The Nib and Feed on this wonderful early issue 146 G deliver fantastic writing ability. Sublime flex nib with PERFECT ink flow. The pen has zero, Cracks, Splits or Repairs etc. The wonderful Orange/Amber transparent see through Lined Window is also superb. Still has excellent Line definition. VERY rare to find so clean. This window is for viewing you ink reserve inside the pen. The Clip and Ring Bands are Yellow Gold Plated and also superb with no Brassing or Plate loss etc. The cap rings are all tight. Again RARE to find such clean Gold Trim on these early examples. Cap has zero shrinkage/warp. The Blind Cap (tail end) has 146 G and f imprints also deep and easy to read. Early large font 146G imprints. 146 became much smaller imprint after 1952. The White Star Cap Top has aged to the highly desirable off White Ivory colour that is unique to 1940-50s Montblanc. Of course the real STAR of the show with this fabulous pen has to be that early 14C FULL Flex nib. Wow what a writer. A simple JOY to use. Writes with an Oblique Fin to Medium Line that has Extra Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Bold and confident nib. The Iridium Nib Tips are as New with zero wear or signs of use. The tines tips are sculpted to allow multi line width variation just by angling the pen differently in the hand etc. I can get EF, F, M and even a slim B all without flexing. A Masterpiece Nib indeed. 100% factory original untouched. Very elegant writer full of personality. Unlike ANYTHING Montblanc make today. If all that creativity were not enough this nib also has AMAZING flexibility that allows for even more line width from F to BBB (Triple Broad) on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. The Flex is Soft but not Loose or Twitchy. Again user friendly flex. So this nib can achieve every line width from EF to BBB. Special note must also be paid to this pens Ski Slope Flat Lined Feed. Perfect ink flow quality. Never skipped a beat during its writing test and I really push them. These feeds are regarded by MANY Montblanc collectors as the best they ever made. Overall this pen is a superb example. Perfect for everyday use. Fills to the max every time. Come s ready to write just add your favourite colour bottled ink… Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a wonderful collectible fountain pen that can be used and enjoyed daily..
