Ltd was originally established as Mabie Todd and Bard of New York, USA in 1873 and began production in the UK in 1905 under licence. The UK branch bought out the US outfit in the early 1920s and Mabie Todd became a wholly owned British company, thriving thanks to British preferences for conservative design and reliability and successful advertising campaigns. This example is a rare and soughtafter SWAN Self Filler in gorgeous bluesnakeskin pattern. The pen carries a 14k Gold broad stub nib which writes a broad line with degree of line variation. The pen has been fully restored and is ready to write. The Nitty Gritty There are no major imperfections to note, no splits cracks or engravings. There is some minor brassing to the trim and lever bar, and one mark on the back of the pen barrel, otherwise a near perfect example. Length capped: 123mm Barrel diameter: 11mm Cap diameter: 12mm.
