Polar Bear 2009 Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pen Rare (NIB). Offered for sale is a Namiki Polar Bear that was released in 2009. The 2009 Limited Edition Polar Bear was conceived to raise awareness of natures delicate balance and the beauty of the environment. This Polar Bear Limited Edition is meticulously crafted by renowned urushi artisan Seiki Chida through a combination of maki-e technique. The pen is filled with texture, both visual and tactile. The ice flows are raised above the surface of the cap and the iceberg seen on the left seems to float off into the distance, which is an abstract of transparency and hard-edged form. The ice flow incorporates two different Maki-e techniques, togidashi-maki-e (burnished Maki-e) and taka-maki-e (raised Maki-e). Togidahsi-maki-e is a method in which silver and gilded patterns are dried, recoated with Urushi, and finally burnished to a high sheen using charcoal. This masterpiece is an excellent collectible because of its deep blue lacquer and the elegant gift box that comes with a lid decorated with a flossed glass representing the sea-ice. This specimen brings a very appealing and low limitation number: 16/99. Broad (B)18ct gold nib imprinted with Mt. Fuji in a white platinum wash and the Namiki pentagon. With special designed ink bottle and special gift box depicting the Arctic Ocean. This pen Includes its wooden box, original packaging, ink bottle, certificates, instruction manual and artisan autographed paper. Only 99 creations were created for the entire world. This is one limited edition Namiki made that does not come with the usual black urushi background. A truly collectible piece of art that is difficult to come by.
