Rare vintage Mercedes safety fountain pen from Germany (Heidelberg), circa late 1920s-1930s. Made of black hard rubber (ebonite) with scripted “Mercedes” imprint on barrel and “15” model marking. Features a retractable safety mechanism that works excellently (nib extends/retracts smoothly). Equipped with original 14K gold flex nib engraved “Mercedes New York 14 Karat” – likely an export model for the US market. The nib is flexible, providing nice line variation (as shown in writing sample with ink). Pen has not been tested with ink long-term, but dry-tested and mechanism is fully functional. Some age-related wear on clip and trim (patina), no cracks or major damage. 12.3 cm capped. A scarce collector’s piece from a short-lived German brand that ceased in the 1950s. No box or papers.
