These Magna were the largest pen Onoto made in the 1940s. Most pen collectors would agree that the Magna was the highest quality fountain pen made in England during the 40’s. Robust and built to last. This example is in superb original condition. VERY rare to find these so clean. It has zero Cracks, Splits or Repairs etc. The Gold Clip and Lever have light age and patina however they are still the cleanest I have seen. Magna Levers are notoriously thinly plated as are the Clips due to War effort etc when Gold was in very short supply. So a little patina is to be accepted when collecting Magna. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye this 80 year old pen looks fantastic. The pen writes with a smooth Fine to Medium line that can write Bold to Broad when pressure is applied. 14CT EXTRA-FINE TIPPED FLEXIBLE NIB. Here, from my Collection, for your consideration. Eyedropper Filling, Fountain Pen.. Manufactured in The U. Around 1910, maybe earlier… I can find very little information on this very rare pen.. “I have never seen another like it”.. It came to me from. And I believe that, that is where it was manufactured. The condition is overall “Excellent”. The slightly “domed” push on Cap is in “excellent” condition.. The Cap has no cracks or breaks. It pushes on and posts nice and securely on to the Barrel. The “Extra Fine” tipped Flexible, 14Ct Nib is now, in great condition.. This rare and unusual Nib was sent to the renowned American Nib Master…. Please refer to Greg’s detailed close up photos.. The shape is perfect and the tines are well aligned… The nib writes very well.. A Super Fine to Broad line. There are no imprint marks on this Nib… But Greg garauntees it to be 14Ct. The Feed is in excellent condition.. The Barrel is in excellent condition… This is an “Eyedropper-Filler” Fountain Pen… The Section is unscrewed from the Barrel and Ink is directly dropped in to the Barrel. A little “silicone grease” can be put on the threads to make sure there are no leaks when filled and in use. This beautiful, “ultra rare”, eyedropper-filling. Pelikan 101N Tortoise Celluloid RHR Fountain Pen 1938. 14C Full Flex Nib RARE. Fully serviced with new Cork. Works, Fills and Writes as when new. Made in Germany 1938. What a handsome pen this is. Beautiful Tortoise Pattern made of Celluloid. These early examples really do have the best colour and tone of all the Pelikan Tortoise pens. As elegant and handsome as this pen is to look at it writes even better. Superb flex nib full of personality. Writes with a Bold and confident Medium line that has Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Perfect for everyday use. However this wonderful nib also has sublime flexibility that allows for even more line width variation on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. Can flex from Fine to all the way past triple Broad. Pelikan simply do not make nibs like this. Not since the 1930-40s. These Pelikan 101N are COMPACT in size but to think of them as small is to not understand their design. When caped ready for storage or placement in your pocket the pen is quite compact at 12cm. However this size is a deception as once you unscrew off the cap the pen itself is a good length similar to 1950s Montblanc 146 or 1930-40s 136 and 134 pens etc.. Also same length once posted cap on tail, indeed the 101N is longer than a 134. (see photo 7 & 10). The Secret to the Compact size is in the Cap.
